Vodafone, India’s 2nd largest telecom operator, in collaboration with Indian Railways is planning to launch free WiFi internet services at Ahmedabad railway station.
This trend of offering free public WiFi is picking up rapid pace in India as it helps the offering company with its promotion campaign while also letting it earn extra revenue post free data usage.
The Details: Speed And Free Data Limit
Vodafone hasn’t mentioned anything about the internet speed that its free public WiFi will be offering. But we hope that it will at least satisfy the broadband definition of TRAI (speed more than 512 Kbps).
This that being said, we expect it to be at least a few times faster than just 512 Kbps as Vodafone is offering just 100 MB of free data or 20 minutes of uninterrupted usage.
“Vodafone’s free Wi-Fi zone is network agnostic and any mobile phone user can avail of this benefit, regardless of which telecom service provider they are aligned with. Vodafone’s free WiFi zone facilitates 100 MB or 20 minutes of uninterrupted usage, whichever lapses first,” said Vodafone.
Any mobile phone can user can connect to this WiFi network and avail the free internet services. The free WiFi access won’t be restricted to Vodafone users only. However, the free usage limit (100 MB or 20 minutes) will apply to all users and will reset every 24 hours.
“A mobile phone user can connect once in 24 hours from one unique number. Vodafone is one of the first telecom service providers in India to activate this innovative initiative linking branding and mass customer engagement, at a popular public outpost,” Vodafone mentioned in the press release.
This free WiFi service from Vodafone will be available on Platform #1 at Ahmedabad Railway Station in Kalupur.
“Whether you are passing by or waiting, now platform No 1 at Ahmedabad Railway Station, Kalupur, is going to be the cool spot to hang out and stay connected round the clock, thanks to Vodafone,” said Jayesh Gadia, Business Head- Gujarat, Vodafone India.
We are really liking the fact that many telecom operators in the country are coming up their own plans for offering free WiFi internet to the masses at various places. However, we would like to know what kind of privacy and security can these operators provide to the users when they use their WiFi networks. Would the WiFi provider use the private user data for advertisement purposes? Or is it purely for public welfare?
Further, we would also like to know more details like internet speed, and how the data usage will be calculated about this free WiFi facility to be provided by Vodafone at Ahmedabad Railway Station.
So, if you happen to be on Platform #1 at Ahmedabad Railway Station, then don’t forget to check out this free WiFi service and post a comment about our experience on ITN. Happy surfing!
