Within a few days of Reliance Communications’ CDMA shutdown (on 850 MHz band #5), Reliance Jio which signed spectrum sharing and trading agreement with RCom has launched its 4G VoLTE network on the same 850 MHz band.

Those using RJio 4G on their LYF phones can access the 4G services on Band #5 as well. RCom has shared its 850 MHz spectrum in 9 circles which are Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Maharashtra & Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, UP East, UP West, and Madhya Pradesh.

According to a report published on Telecom Talk, RJio customers can access the premium 850 MHz band, but the RCom customers can’t use it since the latter is yet to launch its 4G services. According to the spectrum sharing agreement, users of both RJio and RCom would get access to the same network.

It is worth noting that Reliance Jio delayed its pan-India commercial rollout due to network coverage issues.

The operator is still not satisfied with its network coverage provided by 2300 MHz and 1800 MHz waves and has hence pushed its launch date to the year-end. By that time the telcom would not only be able to strengthen its existing network coverage but would also be able to launch its 4G services on the premium 850 MHz (LTE Band #5).

According to the sources, the telco has finished integrating the 850 MHz band in the above mentioned 9 circle and the subscribers would fall back to 850 MHz waves when they don’t have good coverage on 2300 MHz waves (LTE Band #40)

Please note that you still won’t get high speed on Band #5 as the network is still in testing phase, but at least you will have better indoor coverage now.

The below screenshot taken via NetVelocity app shows that RJio network is present on all 3 LTE bands.

RCom 4G will be launched soon for its loyal CDMA users which would then be followed by its commercial launch. Have you tried RJio 4G? Do share your experience with us.
