Remember when we reported that Reliance Jio wants to have at least 90% coverage area before its actual launch? RJio is working very hard to provide a very good network to its subscribers before its public launch. After all, it will only get one chance to prove its worth.

As per the previous updates, Reliance Jio was to make its public debut in March/April this year, but no new information was revealed after that. Some analysts now claim that the launch has not been pushed back, but will happen in phases now. It would be easier for RJio to optimize smaller networks for better quality rather a huge pan-Indian network.

Reliance Jio has overtaken BSNL, Aircel, and RCom as far as the number of cell sites are concerned.

RJio has around 1.2 lakhs mobile towers in the country as of now. This makes RJio #4 mobile operator in the country in terms of number of cell sites. This is in huge contrast to the widespread belief that RJio would start its operation with 70,000 to 80,000 mobile stations.

It is worth noting that RCom and Aircel have a network of around 67,000 base stations throughout the country.

RJio Expected Launch Date

As per the latest reports, the company would likely start its operations from 1 April 2016 and will make an announcement regarding the same on the auspicious day of Holi i.e. 24 March 2016.

Idea Inches Closer To Vodafone

Bharti Airtel has the maximum number of mobile towers in the country followed by 1.79 lakh mobile towers of Vodafone, and 1.77 lakh mobile towers of Idea Cellular.

Idea is erecting more and more towers on a daily basis and is likely to overtake Vodafone by the end of this year. Idea is very aggressive in deploying its 4G network across the country and is adding close to hundred towers every single day.

Vodafone is also expanding its network coverage and is focusing more on its 3G network as it has 4G network license in only 4 out of 22 telecom circles.

Airtel on the other hand, is also busy upgrading its network under its Project Leap. The project is aimed around creating a sustainable network which not only has better indoor and outdoor coverage, but also provides high-speed to more users without getting saturated.

All we are waiting for is the commercial launch of Reliance Jio 4G network along with its own LYF branded 4G VoLTE devices. We will let you know more information about Reliance Jio 4G launch. Stay tuned.
