The disruption, called Reliance Jio, had planned to gross over 250 Million subscribers by the end of 2016, but the plan seemed too ambitious and the company did not bother to talk more about it. The company was only acquiring 5 Lakh customers a day and had initially planned to acquire double this number.
However, keeping aside the numbers, Reliance Jio has garnered over 16 million subscribers in its first month of operations since September 5. The company has also set a world record, that includes the likes of WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat and Skype.

Reliance Jio was being sold at Reliance Digital and Xpress stores across the country, and could be seen with lines of people waiting to get their hands on the Jio sim. Jio has introduced Aadhaar-based paper-less Jio SIM activation across 3,100 cities and towns, which has also drastically improved the time taken to activate a sim card.
Is Jio on track with their goals?
Mukesh Ambani had expected a steep growth in sales of Jio sim cards, but for some there were supply issues, and in most cases there was a long waiting for Jio sim card. If the company could sort out its distribution and inventory issues, then the expected growth could actually be achieved.
However, the company still expects at least another 84 million subscribers in the next three months, which seems a bit too far-fetched. However, considering that the wait times are reducing the inventory is being replenished quickly, the sales might pick up pace soon.
Airtel and Vodafone also have about 20-35 million subscribers, but they took a lot of time comparatively to achieve these volumes. Reliance Jio has achieved this feat in one month, which is exceptional in its own way.
Diwali is also around the corner, so the demand for Jio Sims will increase, which gives Jio perfect opportunity to boast of its accomplishments and market itself with its disruptive pricing.
