Almost every smartphone is now planning to try the much popular online-only model. While some brands have launched online-only models, some have launched separate sub-brands for trying new markets and regions.

Black from Xolo is the company online-only sub-brand targetted around launching value-for-money phones for competing against the likes of YU from Micromax, Lenovo, Huawei, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Motorola.

Black will launch its first smartphone on July 10th which will above for grabs on exclusively via Flipkart.

Black has also partnered with Vodafone India for showcasing and demoing its smartphones to the prospective customers. This will address a big gripe of the customers who don’t want to buy the phones without trying them first.

With this partnership Vodafone will demo Black smartphone across its 100 stores in the country so that the customers can try them first-hand before making a buying decision.

“While online-only is a great strategy to test waters in a new market with a new model, this partnership will allow Xolo to tap into Vodafone’s brick-and-mortar retail presence. Exclusive demos and in-store experience coupled with additional Data offers will empower our customers with a great value proposition and help them remain connected always,” said Vivek Mathur, Chief Commercial Officer, Vodafone India.

Black consumers who choose Vodafone as their network operator will get free 1 GB/month data for 2 months or unlimited music content download through Vodafone Music app for 2 months.

The first Black smartphone will be priced under Rs. 15,000 and will feature a dual-camera setup at the rear for depth of field sensing, and run on the latest Hive UI based on Android Lollipop. The company also mentioned that the phone will also have optimized battery and processor performance.

“At Xolo, we believe in building great smartphone experience that goes beyond just the specs. Typically, for ‘online-only’ products, customers miss out on the opportunity to touch and try the product before the purchase. They have to just depend on the information available online and take a purchase decision basis that. It is for the first time that a brand is giving customers the opportunity to see and experience the product and make an informed choice, before making a purchase online,” said Sunil Raina, Business Head, Xolo.

The first smartphone from Black will feature a rear glass panel, smudge-free display, 4G LTE support, and Android 5.1. The company has also announced that all its upcoming smartphones will support 4G LTE. This will attract a lot of youth since all of them are very excited about Reliance Jio’s 4G launch in Dec 2015 and want to future-proof their smartphone purchase.
