The DoT (Department of Telecommunications) has given green signal to much-needed National MNP (Mobile Number Portability).
Since the introduction of mobile number portability within a circle, the subscribers have raised questions as to why the government is not allowing the operators to allow national mobile number portability. A lot of people and businessmen moves to different states within the country for various reasons. So, they spend quite a lot of money on roaming packs for keeping their permanent number.
This decision of DoT will come into effect from March 2015 and will enable national MNP across all telecom circles. However, this proposal is only okayed by DoT and is yet to be approved by the Information & Broadcasting Minister Mr. Ravi Shanker Prasad.
Bringing the national mobile number portability into effect will cost a total of $10 million. This amount might look gigantic at first, but it would give to a boost to telcos present in maximum number of circles across the country. Some of them are Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications, and Tata Teleservices.
The National MNP would also let you keep and import fancy numbers (of course, with proper legal procedure) from different telecom circles across India, and would thus help in reducing the price of special numbers.
The price of this national MNP might be somewhat more than intra-circle MNP i.e. more than Rs. 19. If DoT keeps it under Rs. 100 then it would seem like to bargain to most of us. What are your thoughts about this?
