This new alternative process includes digitalization and the entry of data into the consumer application form (CAF) electronically.

There is also no need to stick consumer photograph into the form as it would now be taken at the point of sale (POS) itself. The consumer would also need to submit Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents submitted by the customers.

The telecom department has mentioned about this new procedure in its letter titled “Customer application form embedded with photograph and scanned images of Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA)”. It was also mentioned in the letter the consumer is also supposed to submit the copies of PoA and PoI documents along with the CAF.

The letter also stated that the scanned copies of PoA and PoI shouldn’t be stored at the PoS terminal for avoiding any misuse of the documents.

A lot has been changing in the Indian telecom industry ranging from hikes in data tariff plans to allotting new MSC codes to telcos.

Now all that we are waiting for is the launch of Reliance 4G in the country.
