VoLTE is short for Voice over LTE and LTE is an acronym for Long Term Evolution, which is also popular as 4G LTE. The term VoLTE became popular after the launch of Reliance Jio in India. 4G VoLTE is also being marketed as True 4G. Your phone must be fully compatible with Reliance Jio (VoLTE supported) for enjoying all the benefits offered by Jio under various schemes.

Unlike 2G and 3G networks, 4G networks are designed only for data and it is not possible to to use a 4G network for voice calling unless it supports VoLTE.

Now that we know why we need VoLTE in our smartphones, let us see how you can check whether your phone supports 4G VoLTE or not using these 5 easy ways:

1. The Date And Country of Launch

Most of the imported phones do not support 4G VoLTE. Check the below mentioned steps if yours if an imported smartphone.

It will work with all 4G operators in India if it supports LTE Band #3, #5, and #40 but you won’t be able to directly make voice calls from it. You will have to install Jio4GVoice for making voice calls via the internet, or stick to plain old VoIP calling using WhatsApp, Skype, Hangouts, etc.

Almost all the recently launched (post 2015 end) 4G smartphones in India costing above Rs. 7,000 support 4G VoLTE. If you have such a phone, you can also check various blogs to check the VoLTE support for your smartphone.

2. Check Network Symbol

You would be able to check the support for VoLTE using this method only if you have access to a Reliance Jio SIM. Just insert the SIM into the first slot of your phone and set it as a primary SIM for data (on dual SIM phones) and wait for it latch on to the network.

The phone must be in default (factory) network settings for this step to work. If it supports VoLTE then you will see a VoLTE logo near the network indication in the top bar on your smartphone.

3. Go To Settings

Go to Settings and then to ‘SIM cards & mobile networks’.

Check if there is any option as “VoLTE” or “Enhanced 4G”. If yes, then your phone supports VoLTE.

4. Visit Reliance Jio Website

You can head on Reliance Jio website and check if your phone is present in the list of phones supporting 4G VoLTE or True 4G. You can also follow the given links to the manufacturer website and check the complete network specifications of the phones.

5. Search The Web

If may sound silly, but a properly executed web search can provide a lot of information. You can find out if the phone you are considering to buy supports 4G VoLTE or just 4G by doing a Google search (something like, Galaxy J7 VoLTE), or by checking YouTube.

These are some of the easiest methods to check 4G VoLTE support on your smartphone. If you know other easy methods to check support for VoLTE then do let us know via the comments.
