Reliance Jio 4G is the most affordable 4G network in the country with the widest coverage area. While we do have Airtel 4G, Vodafone 4G, Idea 4G, Reliance 4G, Aircel 4G, Telenor 4G, and even BSNL 4G (only in Chennai for now), what makes Jio 4G most attractive is because of its competitively priced data packs, and unlimited free voice calls with no roaming charges for life.
However, Jio 4G supports VoLTE (for voice calling) and if you are using it for reducing your monthly bills on a dual SIM phone, then you might run into many issues. In case you have stumbled upon IndianTelecomNews via Google Search looking for answers to your issues related to your Jio SIM, then we would like to inform that they are pretty easy to fix and can be under in under 5 minutes.
We have listed down some of the most common issues that one might encounter on Jio 4G, or any other 4G network (Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Aircel, Telenor, etc) for that matter. Just follow our instructions very carefully and you will be good to use Jio 4G.
1. No Network On Jio 4G – Unable To Latch Onto 4G
In case the network indicator shows you see a ‘cross’ sign instead of network bars, then your SIM is not receiving any signal. You can resolve this by ensuring that your Jio SIM is inserted properly into the SIM slot. If you are not sure, then switch off your phone, then remove the SIM, clean its surface with a dry cloth (the golden side), and insert it into the SIM slot #1 on your dual SIM 4G phone.
2. Full Network But No Internet – Emergency Calls Only
In some case, you see full network (in the network indicator, but ‘Unknown’ network type in the ‘SIM Status’ option, under Settings), but can neither use internet, or make any calls (on your VoLTE phone), then your Jio SIM is not receiving any 4G signal. The ‘full network strength’ that the network indicator is showing will let you make only emergency calls.
We would suggest you to follow the instructions given in Issue #3 to resolve this issue.
3. No Option To Switch Network Type – Cannot Select 4G Network For Jio SIM
Sometimes you may come across a problem where you can no longer select the ‘Network Type’ on your Jio 4G SIM or any other 4G SIM. Due to this, you will not be able to use 4G on that SIM (Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Reliance, Aircel, Telenor, and others). If this is happening when you are using Jio SIM in slot #1, then you won’t be able to use it for anything.
In many phones, you will see the option of ‘Preferred Network Type’ as grayed out, which will not let you switch the network type.
This can be quite frustrating and can’t be solved by restarting the phone, removing and re-inserting the SIM again, but like all complex problems it too has a very simple solution. Just follow these steps:
Go to ‘SIM card manager’ -> Preferred SIM Card -> Select your 4G SIM for Mobile data (Jio, Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, Reliance, Aircel, Telenor, etc.)
You will now see that the ‘Preferred network type’ option will be enabled and has ‘LTE’ network selected by default for your 4G SIM.
4. 4G Data Is Not Working – Issue With APN Settings
If you have checked all the above mentioned issues, and are still unable to use mobile data on your smartphone, but can make voice calls using VoLTE, then you should check the APN Settings on your smartphone.
APN (Access Point Name) are the settings that are needed to connect to the internet on mobile devices. Normally, you are not required to configure APN Settings on your own, but when you encounter issues while connecting to the internet due to some reason, then it is always better to check the APN settings first.
Follow the same procedure for configuring APN on your smartphone.
Just go to Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names, on your phone running Telenor 4G and enter “uninor” in the APN field.
5. Cannot Make Voice Calls Or Send SMS – Issues with VoLTE
While you cannot make voice calls or send SMS from the default dialer and messaging app on a non-VoLTE 4G phone, you can encounter this problem on your VoLTE-enabled 4G smartphone as well.
Note: Please ensure that ‘VoLTE’ or ‘Enhanced 4G’ is enabled in your phone before proceeding further.
The easiest way to identify this problem is by glancing at your network indicator. If it is not showing the VoLTE symbol, then you have a problem. Kindly ensure that your Jio SIM is latched onto the 4G network and check Issue #3 for help in troubleshooting.
Also try restarting the phone to solve this issue. I have experienced this problem many a times on different phones from Motorola, Xiaomi, and even Samsung so I know that this is not a hardware issue. In many cases, even rebooting does not help and the problem gets resolved automatically within some time.
These are some of the most common connectivity issues with Jio 4G. We hope that our fixes would help you resolve these problems quickly and help you in getting connected to your friends, family, and colleagues.
Do let us know if you are facing some other problem with your Jio connection and will try to help you resolve it.
