Reliance Jio after announcing its new free usage offer termed as ‘Jio Happy New Year Offer’ has launched 2 new recharge packs (prepaid and postpaid) for heavy data users.
A few days back, Mukesh Ambani, RIL Chairman, announced that both existing and new Jio subscribers would be able to use Jio 4G services free of cost till March 2017, which is an extension from the declared termination of free Jio Welcome Offer on 31 December 2016.
Under the Jio Happy New Year Offer (valid from 1 January 2017), the subscribers would get similar benefits like the current ‘Jio Welcome Offer’.
Users would get to call all local and national numbers for free (voice and video both). They will also get free access to Jio apps that stream premium content and would also get unlimited SMS (limited to 100/day as per TRAI guidelines) and free incoming and outgoing calls during roaming.
However, the user accounts would be held accountable for the amount of data used for enjoying premium content on Jio apps and during video calls.
FUP of 1 GB High Speed Data/Day
In an effort to improve the data speed issues plaguing the Jio network that might get worse as more users would join the Jio network, and for adhering to the government guidelines of launching a slightly tweaked free usage offer extending to 90 days, Jio has reduced the high-speed data usage to just 1 GB/day.
After exhausting your daily limit of 1 GB, you will get unlimited internet access at 128 Kbps. This FUP speed is only good for WhatsApp-ing and email checking. Nothing else.
It is worth noting that a majority of Jio subscribers (80%) consume less than 1 GB data per day, so this daily FUP of 1 GB won’t affect most of you in any way.
However, if your monthly consumption amount to more than 30 GB, then you should consider these new launched speed restoration packs launched by Jio.
Rs. 51 pack offers 1 GB high-speed data valid for 24 hours from the time of recharge, while Rs. 301 recharge voucher offers 6 GB high-speed data valid for 28 days. These packs would be valid for new Jio users from today and for the existing Jio subscribers from 1 Jan 2017.
It is worth noting that these packs would come into usage only after you exhaust your daily limit of 1 GB.
We are hoping that Jio improves its network quality as this “Happy New Year Offer” will buy the telecom operator yet another 90 days for improving its services. As of now many users don’t perceive Jio’s services to be worth paying for. This should not be the case post 31 March because if it happens, then the users would neither opt nor port their primary number to Jio.
