The much anticipated fiber broadband services from Reliance Jio is nearing its launch. According to a report on Teleanalysis, Jio broadband services could go live by June 2017 with speeds ranging between 100 Mbps and 1 Gbps.
The company is readying the broadband for commercial rollout in various cities and all broadband plans will offer a minimum speed of 100 Mbps along with various other add-on services.
“We are doing some trials in various cities and most trials are successful and ready for commercial roll out,” said anonymous company sources.
According to the report, there would be some development on this front in various cities and that the masses would be able to subscribe to it in the next 2 months.
What Is So Special About Jio FTTH Broadband?
The company sources claim that the services offered on Jio broadband would be like no other internet service provider. The base plan will offer a speed of 100 Mbps, revealed the source. And as per our earlier info, Jio FTTH (Fiber to the home) service would be capable of offering up to 1 Gbps speed. So it would be safe to assume that Jio’s broadband would be offering speeds between 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps as per the tariff plans.
“The minimum speed one will get is 100 Mbps. Our plans start from 100 Mbps and it will be the most affordable home broadband service that Indian consumers will ever get,” explained the source.
It was also revealed that the company would offer the FTTH services at very competitive rates. This would be similar to the pricing of Jio 4G, which is also called as penetration pricing, done to garner market share in the initial stage.
“You will not mind paying that,” said the source when asked about the tariff plans.
Jio would also bundle various services as add-on with the FTTH service including smart calling.
Smart calling connects all the phones (mobiles and landlines) in your home, so you can answer calls on your fixed wireline phone using your mobile phone and the other way around. The subscriber may or may not opt for this smart calling feature as per his/her needs as it just an add-on feature.
Jio is also planning to come up with various other services bundled with FTTH including home automation, home surveillance, smart camera, smart doorbell, smart lock, and chime alarm. The user would be able to manage these services by using his/her smartphone.
This would be first case of deployment of IoT technology at homes on a large scale, the source stated.
We are super excited for the launch of Jio FTTH services. If Jio can offer 100 Mbps download speed under Rs. 1,000, then it would be a huge success in the market. The existing ISPs (Internet Service Providers) would be forced to lower their rates, which would benefit the end consumers as a result. Stay tuned on ITN for more developments.
